Celebration as Community Empowerment
Jon Irigoyen’s proposal for the second edition of Tbilisi Triennial is a community collaborative process to be delivered through a series of neighbourhood embodiment activities and events.
The space to work with will be the Hippodrome Park, a recreational area near the Saburtalo district. This area – an old, disused Hippodrome in ruins – is nowadays a popular meeting place and communal space where people with different interests, backgrounds and nationalities come together.
Through diverse communal processes of gathering and celebration, the project will develop and explore concepts such as the commons, grass roots, public space, territory, social empowerment in order to facilitate and empower different dynamics of community, neighbourhood, and social construction.
