The Field Academy
Shindisi Field Academy is a venue of the 2nd Tbilisi Triennial presenting several artistic works by Mamuka Japharidze in Shindisi - a small land on the hill overlooking the town. It is surrounded by fields and the forest park, and the distance from there to the city is a walk of about 6km. Within the land the authors of the project are creating a permaculture environment, and for this they have practical work to do, they are physically engaged with soil and soil testing and keep it fertile to grow there the edible, as well as medical plants. All their work is done in a very non-formal setting, into which the authors also receive guests.
The goal of the given project is to create space for public events, including:
Sustainable Vineyard - a sculpture by Mamuka Japharidze, creating a symbiosis of poultry farming and wine cultivation, consisting of two layers. The first layer will include birds, cleaning soil from insects and parasites and fertilizing land for vines, whereas the second layer will be the actual working space of vineyard.
Tables for Insects - aims to draw attention to the natural imbalance, caused by artificial illumination in urban spaces. Insects, confused by the unnatural length of “daylight” are changing their regular behavior, migrate, or disappear from their original habitat. “Tables for Insects” consists of 3 tables / light boxes, giving the viewers an opportunity to observe the micro life of different insects closely.
Outdoor wine cellar - ash trees are planted in a circle shaping space for wine cellar. Specific climate creates exceptional situation for wine making.
